Tom was born in north Toledo into a proud Polish family-- the son of a hard-working butcher and a caring mom who raised four successful boys. Later, she spent 14 years as a UAW member at the Chevy transmission plant on Alexis.
Tom spent more than 25 years in television news. He enjoyed asking politicians the tough questions about their service, or lack thereof. Later, he started an internet company (Access Toledo). He decided to run for Toledo City Council after the city was unresponsive to a utility problem on his property. He couldn't get a single call back from ANYONE in city government for a problem they created!
He was elected on his first try for public office, and he promised to deliver the best constituent services possible. He did NOT disappoint. He was reelected to a second term, then ran unopposed for a third term (the maximum allowed).
Tom served on many non profit boards, including chair of the regional United Way. Tom is credited with bringing the 211 Call Center to Lucas County.
He raised money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo. In 2023, he retired as director of development for Catholic Charities.
